WHAT IS A BIORHYTHM?
--------------------
A biorhythm is a cyclical pattern of biological activity
that begins at birth with three sine wave cycles controlling
our (P)hysical, (E)motional, and (I)ntellectual highs and lows.
--- (P)hysical ---
The (P)hysical cycle begins every 23 days and controls our
energy, vitality, stamina, vigor, endurance and initiative.
When our `P' is `UP', that is, on the right side of the
center `CRITICAL' line, we are more likely to feel better,
be full of energy, and less likely to become ill.
When our (P)hysical is `DOWN', on the left side of the
center line, we tend to tire more easily and be more apt
to catch colds and other illnesses.
--- (E)motional ---
The (E)motional cycle begins every 28 days and controls our
sensitivity and temperament.
When our `E' is on the right side of the line, also known as
the positive side, we are more likely to be cheerful, creative,
artistic, sensuous, etc.
When our (E)motional cycle is `DOWN', or negative, we are
more likely to be moody, bad tempered, irritable, depressed,
etc.
--- (I)ntellectual ---
Our (I)ntellectual cycle begins every 33 days and controls
our thinking capacity.
When our (I) cycle is `UP', we are able to think quickly,
solve problems, do well on tests, concentrate, retain facts
to memory, etc.
When our (I)ntellectual is `DOWN', we display poor memory
and judgment. We may find it hard to concentrate. Poor
decisions may be made during this period.
The magnitudes of the cycles have no significance except
to indicate negative, zero and positive values.
Zero days, when the curve crosses the center line, are
also called `CRITICAL' days. This is the period when your
system may be in a turmoil. Things are likely to go wrong
and you may be more accident prone. However, we may be
able to prevent unforeseen problems just by being aware of
our CRITICAL or ZERO days.
WHAT THIS PROGRAM DOES
----------------------
This program will:
* Print to screen and/or printer, a biorhythm cycle for
any person, living or dead, for any length of time desired
and for any dates desired (within the scope of this program).
A biorhythm is based upon a person's date of birth and will
plot three sine-wave cycles consisting of an Intellectual
cycle, an Emotional cycle, and a Physical cycle. (For more
information concerning the actual biorhythm, see the COVER
PAGE created by the program. This can be printed out from the
main menu.)
* Print to screen and/or printer, a daily forecast for any
one date, depending on a person's biorhythm pattern for that
particular date.
* Print to screen and/or printer, a compatibility report,
comparing any two persons for any single date.
STARTING THE PROGRAM FROM DOS
-----------------------------
To start the program, place the program disk in the
floppy drive and type the letter of the drive followed by a
colon, i.e. A:, B:, etc., then press <Enter>. At the system
prompt, you may now type:
PB <Enter>
INSTALLING THE PROGRAM
----------------------
This program may be installed on your hard disk drive by
typing INSTALL (drive) (drive). For instance, to install to
the C: drive from the A: drive you would type INSTALL A: C: and
press <Enter>. The install program will create a directory on
your hard disk called PB4 and put all the files inside this
directory.
To run the program from the DOS prompt, which will now
be the name of your hard drive, i.e. C:\> or D:\>, etc., you
must change into the directory by typing: CD\PB4. Now your
prompt will look something like C:\PB4>. At this point,
type: PB and press <enter> to run the program. (Note: some
prompts may still be C:\> and not show the PB4.)
Anyone familiar with DOS commands may wildcard all the
files into a directory on the hard drive. The directory may
be named anything of your choice. If you are not familiar
with DOS commands, we suggest you use the install program
included on the disk.
STARTING THE PROGRAM FROM WINDOWS
---------------------------------
To start the program, at the program manager screen
click your mouse on file. Bring the cursor down and select
"Run..." from the pull-down menu. If the Biorhythm program has
been installed on the hard drive, type in: C:\PB4\PB and press
<Enter> (whereas C: represents the name of the hard drive you
have installed to, and PB4 represents the name of the directory
it is located in). If you are running the program from floppy
disk, you will type in: A:\PB and press <Enter> (whereas A:
represents the name of the floppy drive you have the program
disk in. When you quit the biorhythm program, you will be
returned to your Windows menu.
It takes more memory to run Personal Biorhythm through Windows.
If you do not have enough memory, you will receive an error
message. Refer to running the program from DOS instructions
above.
FEATURES OF VERSION 4.5 OVER SOME OLDER VERSIONS
------------------------------------------------
SYMBOLS: The symbols, explained on the cover page and
printed beside the date on the biorhythm chart, are E, P+, P-,
I+ and I- to indicate a cycle crossing the critical line.
DATABASE: A database, accessible from the main menu, will
store up to thirty four (34) names and birthdates, and quickly
retrieve the information when creating a biorhythm, forecast,
or compatibility report.
ONE-KEY DATE ENTRY: When entering any date asked for,
pressing the <Enter> key equals the current date (computer
must have current date in memory).
DATE CORRECTION: When entering a date manually, a mis-
take can be corrected by pressing the <backspace> key to
backup one space. Each successive keypress of the <back-
space> key backs up an additional space and erases the
number previously entered there.
DAILY FORECAST: A one-day forecast for any date can be
printed to screen or printer.
COMPATIBILITY REPORT: A comparison can be made between
two persons for any single date, giving a separate percentage
compatibility for each cycle, and then a total percentage by
comparing all three cycles together.
PRINTER SETUP: Additional printer setup to allow for
laser printers and other single-sheet feed printers.
LENGTH OF CHART: Allows user to change the length of
the printed page. This feature was added to accommodate
laser printers, foreign users with different length printer
paper, and printers that automatically line feed at the
beginning of the page.
SCREEN BLANK: When exiting to DOS from version 3.0,
the screen may have appeared to go blank. Actually, it was
coloring the screen black text on black background and just
appeared to be blank. This has been corrected so you should
not encounter this problem.
DOUBLE SPACING: The user now has the option to single
space or double space the chart. The double space option
may be done with either a blank line or a horizontal printed
line between each day's printout.
USING THE PROGRAM
-----------------
This program is very user-friendly in that it prompts
you for input on everything. You will not need to memorize
any of this documentation. Experienced computer users will
likely not even need to read these instructions. First-time
users of the program should read at least the highlights.
Following are the MAIN MENU items and a simple descrip-
tion of what each item does and how to make it work. To
select an item from the main menu, press the letter or char-
acter which is highlighted in brackets.
(B)IORHYTHM - This item creates the biorhythm from data
that you input through the keyboard. Following is an
explanation of each question you MUST answer in the process
of creating a biorhythm.
STARTING DATE:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY - Press <Enter> to input current
date. (Note: current date must be in memory of your
machine).
MANUAL ENTRY - When inputting this date (or any
date for that matter) you will need to enter 2 numbers
for Months (January through September requires a zero in
front), 2 numbers for date (1 through 9 requires a zero
in front), and four digits for year. That is, a date
like 1-9-94 must be entered as 01-09-1994. You will not
need to enter the hyphens, plus you will not need to
press the <Enter> key. (Note: If using the numeric
keypad, make sure the NumLock light is on).
Dates do not need to be current, for example you
can run a biorhythm for John Kennedy the day he was
shot, for George Washington the day of his famous
crossing, or your own biorhythm the day you graduated or
got married.
WHO IS BIORHYTHM FOR:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY FROM DATABASE - Input the letter X
in either small or capital letter, press <Enter>. Input
the number beside the name you wish to select, press
<Enter>. (Note: you must have previously added one or
more names to the database using the (D)atabase Mainten-
ance option).
MANUAL ENTRY - Input the name as you want it to
appear on the chart, press <Enter>. (Note: you may
enter in small or capital letters. Program will convert
letters to all capitals).
BIRTHDATE TO USE:
Enter the correct birthdate in the same fashion as
starting date above, using format of MM-DD-YYYY. If you
entered name from database, birthdate will already be
entered automatically.
HOW MANY DAYS:
You may run a biorhythm from 1 day to ??? (what-
ever). In this case where the answer may be a single or
multiple digit number, you need to press the <Enter> key
to accept your answer.
PRINT COVER SHEET:
Normally you will want to print the cover sheet
because it contains some useful information, especially
for a first-time chart reading of this version of the
program. IF YOU ARE PRINTING THE CHART TO SCREEN, you
MUST answer NO, as the cover sheet does not print to
screen.
SCREEN OR PRINTER:
If you answer NO to PRINT COVER SHEET, you will be
asked if you want the biorhythm sent to the SCREEN or
the PRINTER. You cannot send it to both. The cycles
are displayed in different colors when using the screen
mode on a color computer. Each time the screen fills
up, it will pause until you press a key. You may press
ANY key to continue. You can leisurely scroll through
months of cycles searching for highs, lows, or critical
dates. You may not scroll backwards in screen mode. If
you have any trouble getting the biorhythm to print, see
printer setup.
SINGLE SPACE OR DOUBLE SPACE:
If you selected print to (P)rinter, you now have
the option to single space or double space your bio-
rhythm. If you wish the `default' single spaced chart,
press <ENTER> at this time. If you would like the chart
to be double spaced you have two options. Select <D> to
double space with a blank line between each printed line
or select <L> to double space with a printed line of
dashes between each printed line of the chart. You will
want to print a biorhythm with each option to see the
difference, but the <L> option is recommended for read-
ability.
(F)ORECAST - This will print a one-day forecast for any
one particular date.
WHAT IS DATE TO USE:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY - Press <Enter> to input current
date. (Note: current date must be in memory of your
machine).
MANUAL ENTRY - When inputing a date, enter 2
numbers for month, 2 numbers for date, and four numbers
for year, as in 3-2-94 must be entered as 03-02-1994.
You do not need to enter the hyphens, plus you do not
need to press the <Enter> key.
WHO IS FORECAST FOR:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY FROM DATABASE - Input the letter X
in either small or capital letter, press <Enter>. Input
the number beside the name you wish to select, press
<Enter>. (Note: you must have previously added one or
more names to the database using the (D)atabase Mainten-
ance option).
MANUAL ENTRY - Input the name as you want it to
appear on the chart, press <Enter>.
WHAT IS BIRTHDATE TO USE:
Enter the correct birthdate using format of
MM-DD-YYYY. If you entered name from database,
birthdate will already be automatically entered.
PRINT TO SCREEN OR PRINTER:
Select S for (S)creen or P for (P)rinter. Select-
ing (P)rinter will also print forecast to screen. When
finished reading forecast, press any key to return to the
Main Menu.
(C)OMPATIBILITY - This will allow you to do a comparison
between two people.
WHAT IS DATE FOR COMPARISON:
Press <enter> to use the current date for the
comparison, or type in the date using the MMDDYYYY
format as described earlier.
FIRST PERSON'S NAME:
AUTOMATIC ENTRY FROM DATABASE - Input the letter X
in either small or capital letter, press <Enter>. Input
the number beside the name you wish to select, press
<Enter>. (Note: you must have previously added one or
more names to the database using the (D)atabase Mainten-
ance option).
MANUAL ENTRY - Input the name using the keyboard.
WHAT IS BIRTHDATE OF FIRST PERSON:
Enter the correct birthdate using format of
MM-DD-YYYY. If you entered name from database,
birthdate will already be automatically entered and
program will not ask for birthdate at this point.
SECOND PERSON'S NAME/BIRTHDATE:
Enter the second name and birthdate as you did the
first name. You may enter one name from database and
one from keyboard, both from database, or both from
keyboard.
PRINT TO (S)CREEN OR (P)RINTER:
Decide if you want a hard copy (printed) of the
comparison or displayed only to screen. Comparison will
display on screen regardless of which choice you make.
When finished printing or viewing, press any key to
return to the main menu.
(W)HAT IS A BIORHYTHM: Prints to screen or printer a
definition of a biorhythm.
PRINT TO (S)CREEN OR (P)RINTER:
Select `S' if you wish to view the definition on
your screen, or `P' if you wish to print a one-page
hard copy. It is suggested that this printout be given
to first-time biorhythm users to help them understand
the principles and what the cycles represent.
(P)RINTER SETUP: Permits you to select a printer port
of LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3, and to change the type style of the
printout between NORMAL, NEAR LETTER QUALITY, COMPRESSED, or
COMPRESSED BOLD. A new setting supports laser printers and
other single-sheet fed printers. There are default settings
for both the printer port and the printer and this will be
the setting when you first receive the program. If you have
trouble printing on some settings, or if you are not sure
which settings to use, then it is best to leave both settings
at DEFAULT, at least at first to see if default works okay.
Default should print okay with 95% of all printers. If your
chart carries a few lines of page one to the second page, see
Page Length Editor instructions below.
(S)CREEN BLANK: You may blank the screen from the main
menu by pressing `S'. Press any key to restore menu. This
will act like a screen saver when using the program where the
menu remains on the screen for long periods of time, but
running the program has temporarily ceased. Blanking the
screen will prevent screen burn-in. Pressing (L) will bring
up the Personal Biorhythm opening Logo. This may be desirable
if your computer is setup in a mall, flea market, etc., to
draw attention to your display.
(D)ATABASE MAINTENANCE: Sometimes it's hard to remember
birthdates of friends and family members. Now you can store up
to thirty-four (34) of the most frequently used names and
retrieve this information when you use the program. This
selection permits you to add, delete and edit names in the
database.
VIEW INFORMATION IN THE DATABASE:
Selecting (D) from the main menu opens the database
and allows you to view the names and birthdates on one
screen. Pressing (ESC)ape at this point returns to the
main menu.
(A)DD ENTRY - After selecting (A), the program will
ask `WHICH ENTRY?'. Input the LOWEST NUMBER that does
not already have an entry next to it. Press <ENTER>.
The program will prompt you to input a name. Type the
name exactly as you want it to appear on the biorhythm
printout. It does not matter whether you use small
letters or capitals, the program will convert all the
letters to capital letters. Press <ENTER> when name
is complete. Next, you will be asked to enter the birth
date. Input as MMDDYYYY (Month, Day, Year) with no
spaces between any numbers. When finished, press
<ENTER> and the information will be written to the
database. Press (ESC)ape at this point when you are
ready to return to the main menu, or A to add another
entry.
(D)ELETE ENTRY - To remove a name, press D. You
will be asked WHICH ENTRY? Select the number to delete
and press <ENTER>. If you have made a mistake and do
not wish to delete an entry at this point, enter 0
(zero) and press <ENTER>.
(E)DIT ENTRY - To change an existing entry, press
E. You will be asked WHICH ENTRY? Input the number
next to the name you wish to edit and press <ENTER>.
The program will prompt you to input a new name. Type
the name exactly as you want it to appear on the
biorhythm printout. It does not matter whether you use
small letters or capitals, the program will convert all
the letters to capital letters. Press <ENTER> when name
is complete. Next, you will be asked to enter the new
birth date. Input as MMDDYYYY (Month, Day, Year) with
no spaces between any numbers. When finished, press
<ENTER> and the information will be written to the
database. Press (ESC)ape at this point when you are
ready to return to the main menu.
(E)XIT or (ESC)APE will quit program and exit back to
DOS from the main menu. (ESC) at any other point in the
program will exit back to the main menu.
(R)EGISTER THIS PROGRAM: If you have a registered
version, you will not see this menu item, however there is a
registration form in ASCII format in the REGISTER.FRM file.
This particular file can be printed by inputting at the DOS
prompt: PRINTDOC and pressing <ENTER>. Those persons using
unregistered (evaluation) copies may print a one-page
registration form by selecting `R' from the menu. Make sure
printer is online and has paper in it. This form is one
sheet in length.
PAGE LENGTH EDITOR:
-------------------
If page two of your printed chart has only a few lines
with the rest of the page blank, or if there is a lot of blank
page at the bottom of page one, then you need to correct the
page length by using this option.
This does not affect the cover sheet, only the
actual chart. This may be done directly on floppy
disk, or on the computer hard drive where the program
has been installed.
Determine how many lines more or less you need.
For example, suppose that your chart is printing a
full sheet on the 1st page, then it prints only one
line on page 2, with the rest of the page blank, then
a full sheet on page 3. This means it carried over
1 line from page 1, so you would want the program to
print 1 line less per page. You cannot hurt the program
by changing this number and you can always make ad-
ditional changes if the results are not correct the
first time. Some foreign countries use longer length
paper and will want to make this number larger to print
more lines per page.
TO USE THE EDITOR:
1) Change your prompt to the floppy drive or to the
hard drive directory where the program is installed.
2) Type EDITLINE and press the <Enter> key.
3) Read instruction on the screen.
4) Type Y and press the <Enter> key.
5) Type the number for the number of lines desired and
then press the <Enter> key.
6) Program will now tell you what the current line
setting is and again ask you if you want to change
that number.
7) Type N and press the <Enter> key.
8) Run the program, print a chart and make sure the
results are what you wanted.
9) Repeat this process as needed.
